As summer is slowly approaching and we finally don’t have any Covid restrictions in place, it’s time to start planning in some wonderful family activities to enjoy. That’s why Conservatory Makeovers have curated this list of activities to do around Devon this summer. We’ve included things to do on sunny days as well as on those unfortunate rainy British summer days.
The National Marine Aquarium (NMA) is the perfect family day out for rainy summer days. Spend the day wandering through the different zones and exhibits, learning about the animals living underwater from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Barrier Reef. The NMA hosts a number of events daily that can be booked online for adults and children of all ages, including an Ocean Todds group aimed at children between 2-4 years old.

The Donkey Sanctuary is a great outdoors activity for the whole family, entry is always free and there’s no need to book in advance you can simply show up on the day. This Spring they’re hosting a Spring Nature Trail (Starting 25/04/22 – 19/06/22), to take part in the trail it’s just £5 and there are prizes to be won! There’s an outdoor picnic site to enjoy your lunch or check out their award-winning restaurant The Kitchen for some great food. (All profits from The Kitchen go back to the charities worldwide work.)
The Ludwell Valley Park is a gorgeous self-guided trail with information boards dotted around to highlight the nature you can spot along the way. The trail is just a short walk-in comparison to other nature trails at only one and a half miles, making it the perfect day out for families. Why not take a picnic and make a day out of the trail?
The Estuary is a great location for walking or cycling, there are miles of safe routes for both. The ground is also perfect for pushchairs so you’re able to take young children without worrying about the pushchair bouncing around. There’s an onsite carpark and picnic spots dotted around the Estuary for you to enjoy your lunch in the sunshine. These spots also make great locations for tired children to stop and rest their feet.

Powderham Castle
The historic Powderham Castle is yet another great day out for those wet weather days but if you can make it on a sunny day, it is especially beautiful. Dogs are welcome on the grounds except for Deer Park and the Walled Garden, and their admission is only £1. Family day tickets are available with the option to have a guided tour, entry to the grounds or entry to the castle and its grounds. You can also take part in a goat walk from as little as £2 and throughout the Spring and Summer breaks they hold an outdoor cinema for all the family.
